Dr. Cope has spent the last two and half years perfecting the digital workflow of intraoral scanning, digital case setup, 3D printing, and fabrication/delivery of in-house aligners and indirect bonding trays. He uses this experience to show you how to shorten your learning curve while incorporating digital orthodontics in your office.

 

During the course, users will:

 

1) Team up in pairs to scan each other using intraoral scanners and submit their scan to their own in-house lab.

 

2) Then use their own STL files to setup their cases in each of several ways. A) Using a browser-based software to submit, manage, and track their lab prescription to their in-house lab; manage their digital workflow; trim, base, and label STL files for 3D printing. B) Using two Windows-based software programs for in-house aligner setup with attachment design, basing, and labeling the files for 3D printing and fabrication.

 

3) Several of these cases will then be sent to the 3D printer for model printing and subsequent clear retainer or aligner fabrication.

 

4) A selection of these retainers or aligners will then be delivered clinically.

Dr. Jason B. Cope received his DDS, Orthodontic Certificate, and PhD in craniofacial bone biology from Baylor College of Dentistry, in Dallas, Texas. The PhD work that Dr. Cope performed on the then novel bone growing technique, distraction osteogenesis, generated 12 peer-reviewed journal articles, a feat unheard of in the three years it took to complete his PhD. In addition, he was awarded 6 national awards for his distraction osteogenesis research. Dr. Cope currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Orthodontic Department at Baylor College of Dentistry and an Adjunct Associate professor in the Department of Graduate Orthodontics at St. Louis University. He is also a visiting professor at several universities and has lectured to graduate students around the world. Dr. Cope has been a researcher on over 21 funded research projects and has served as a committee member on numerous orthodontic graduate student thesis projects. Dr. Cope was a pioneer in the development of Temporary Anchorage Devices focusing on the development of clinical protocols and products to enhance MiniScrew Implant (MSI) use. In 2003, he partnered with IMTEC Corp in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to develop the Ortho Implant the first US manufactured orthodontic MSIs. He coined the term Temporary Anchorage Devices and the nomenclature system used to describe the various TAD systems. He also developed the Cope Placement ProtocolTM, the first minimally invasive protocol that utilized drill-free MSI placement with topical anesthetic only. He also developed a patented life-like triple-density typodont for teaching MSI placement methods. Other protocols and products he has developed include the biomechanically-oriented MSI-based palatal approach to openbite closure protocol, the patented openbite closing transplatal arch, the biomechanically-oriented MSI-based molar protraction protocol, the temporary replacement of missing permanent lateral incisors in growing kids with MSIs, and the patented locking closed coil spring. Most recently, Dr. Cope’s activities have been focused on the integration of digital 3D data into standard orthodontic workflows. A specific focus is the merging the intraoral scan with CBCT data to create a functional working model for digital bracket placement and the fabrication of indirect bonding trays that are directly printed, thereby avoiding the laboratory process. A prolific author and speaker, Dr. Cope has published 30 journal articles, 36 book chapters, and two orthodontic textbooks. In addition, he has given over 320 presentations, speaking across the US, and in 22 countries on 6 continents. Dr. Cope is an ad hoc reviewer for every major American scientific orthodontic journal, as well as several oral surgery and basic science dental journals. Dr. Cope’s private practice is located in Dallas, Texas, where he treats patients 3 days a week. The remainder of his week is spent teaching orthodontic residents at Baylor, performing clinical research, and developing lecture material, educational aides, and new orthodontic products.
